Support Passports With Purpose & Help Build Wells in Haiti
In Haiti, half the population lacks access to clean water. Doing its part to address this crisis, the nonprofit organization Water.org has committed to reach 50,000 Haitians with clean water and sanitation over the next three years.
Passports With Purpose, the annual travel blogger fundraiser, aims to raise $100,000 to help Water.org fund five community wells in rural Haiti. Since 2009, Water.org has helped hundreds of communities in Africa, South Asia and Central America gain access to clean water.
Launched in 2008 by four bloggers – Debbie Dubrow, Michelle Duffy, Pam Mandel and Beth Whitman – Passports With Purpose has raised $28,000 for a school in rural Cambodia, $60,000 to house 25 families in Southern India and $90,000 to build two libraries in Zambia.
Here’s how you can help the effort: Go to the Passports With Purpose donation page, browse all the great prizes, and make a donation. For each $10 donation (which is tax-deductible), you’ll be entered to win the prize of your choice. More than 150 bloggers are participating and the list includes everything from luggage to overnight stays to two-week-long getaways. Prize values range from $100 to thousands of dollars. When the fundraiser ends on Dec. 11, 2012, a winner for each prize is randomly selected.
We’re excited to share that The Adventure Post is sponsoring a prize that any traveler would love: the Eagle Creek Afar backpack. With a volume of 2,050 cubic inches, the pack can hold a 17-inch laptop in a zippered, padded compartment that has hidden pockets for travel documents. Also, the pack interior includes Smart Travel Security pockets to hold a phone and other electronics.
Built with the comfort features of a technical pack, the Afar has contoured shoulder straps, a tuck-away hip belt, adjustable sternum strap, and a mesh back panel that prevents hot air and moisture from being trapped against your back.
Two front mesh pockets and two side mesh pockets are located on the tough exterior, which is made of 420-denier nylon, and 1,000-denier nylon. The pack is available in black, ochre and slate blue.
This great pack will serve any globetrotting adventure, and you can enter to win it with a donation to Passports With Purpose.
A big thanks to Eagle Creek for donating the pack. The company also generously donated another backpack to Tim Leffel’s Cheapest Destinations blog – so you have double the chance to win a great pack with your donations. And huge thanks to you for supporting this fundraising effort, which will no doubt improve the lives of people in Haiti.
The 2012 Passports With Purpose fundraiser with prizes begins Nov. 28, 2012, and ends Dec. 11, 2012, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. All donations will go to the 2012 beneficiary, Water.org.
